ptab Barbie Brazil Bill PiburnBill Piburn {2003} Bill PiburnCraig Rogers {Tellurian}craigrogers706@hotmail.comÿÈ Inspiration from experimenting with moving triads over a pedaled bass note led to writing "Barbie Brazil." Pedaled bass notes are nothing more than repeating the same bass note as the harmony moves above. The harmony can move in the form of chords or single notes changing their harmonic function as they are played against the repeated bass note {pedal}. I personally became aware of this device from listening to Lenny Breau. However I know now that I've heard it all my life. Everyone from the great blues artist Lightnin' Hopkins to Mozart has used pedaled bass notes. It's interesting that this device fits so naturally into such a vast stylistic range.
