ptab The Coolin Glenn WeiserAnnonymous - Thirteenth Century Glenn WeiserCraig Rogers {Tellurian}craigrogers706@hotmail.comb This is a very old song that may date back as far as the thirteenth century, when the English passed laws forbidding young Englishmen from wearing the Irish hairstyle known as the 'coolin' - something close to the "rat-tail" of the 1980's. In the lyrics to the song, a young Irish woman is enjoining other Irish maidens to marry the wearers of the coolin. The version given here was taken down from the singing of Patricia Cahill, a former nun who left the cloister on the advice of her mother-superior to pursue a musical career.
